DIY Kitchen Table

It has finally arrived! I have been waiting to do this project since May and I am so excited with how this turned out! This table would be unbelievably expensive at a store and we made it for under 40$! It was pretty easy too!

1) Pick out your boards! My table is 4.5 feet long and 3 feet wide so we used 3 boards that are 2 inches thick, 12 inches wide, and 4.5 feet long! That covers the top of the table. To get the rustic look you have to beat the crap out of it, I used a hammer and some old medal chains.

2) Next you want to make the frame for the table. We used 1x2's for this. We wanted the frame to be 1.5 inches from the top and 1.5 inches from the side.

PS Jude's Dad helped with this project, and he has a table saw so it went a lot faster!
3) Then you want to add two more 1x2's down each side of the bottom of the table just to give the top of the table more support!

4) Next you can drill some screws into the frame. I love the look of black screws so I didn't mind how many screws showed on the top!

5) Next you want to drill hols in the side of the table so you can add bolts into the legs to attach to the table. You want the legs to be removable so you can transfer it easier!
PS we used 4x4's that were 28 inches tall for the legs :)

you will put the bolt through that hole and a hole in the leg to secure the legs

6) Time to stain and seal, my favorite! My Dad helped with this part!
Kona Stain...I am obsessed with this color!

I went over the table with the stain on a brush and then my dad followed behind with a rag to lightly wipe off some of the stain to give it a more rustic look

Add a light coat of sealant. We did 3 coats just to make it more shiny and we lightly sanded between each coat
7) add the bolts, adorable chairs and stand it up!

There ya have it! An antique looking barn wood table that cost you under 40$!

Tweets from Jerica!

Okay so I do not have a twitter, I do have a facebook and an instagram (follow me @k0k04 :) ) but Jude does have a twitter and periodically I go on and read some of our friends tweets. My favorite tweets are from one of my very best friends, Jerica. She is freaking hilarious and never fails to make me laugh.

Jer is the one on the far left

My favorite tweets from her:

"My neighbor is cousin Eddy"

"Sammy is so excited for her birthday breakfast of her fav canned dog food" ....sammy is her dog lol

"I love it when you call me big papa"

"At least I have alcohol"

"Just got lost driving to Waverly...like how?" You don't even know how funny this tweet is to me since we went to college in Waverly and it's probably the smallest town you will ever encounter in your life.

"Someone just referred to Obama as God...."

"Am I the only person who barks at their dog....?"

"...I really need to be back in bed with no pants on..."

"I love dilfs"

"Got home from clinical's 3 minutes ago and I'm already in bed with my pants off..."

"Sitting at the pool wondering how 12 year olds have boobs 3 times the size of mine?"

I really think I love this girl!!! Did these make you laugh too?? Jerica follows my blog and follows some other blogs too! I'm trying to talk her into starting a blog too...encouragement is welcome :)

Feeling Blessed...

Do you ever have those days where you just feel blessed? Like, "God, how am I this lucky in my life?" Today was one of those days for me. I didn't have the best day at work, Tayte decided to rip off all the toilet paper from the toilet paper roll while I was changing Brendyn's diaper, and he whipped a spoon at me because he didn't like the meal I SERVED him at lunch, I then followed with a 5 minute rant about children in Africa who don't have any food or water and he just stared at me. Random, but I'm thinking about doing a day in the life of a nanny blog post, what do you guys think? Anyways, how can I not laugh about all that crap right now lol? Here's why I'm feeling so wonderful today...

-One: I'm blessed to be an American

I can't believe it's been twelve years since this horrific day. I still can remember it perfectly. This morning the boys and I started our day with a prayer for all the families of those who lost someone as a result of that day.

-Two: I got in a great run today

-Three: When I got home today I heard a saw going downstairs. My dad was working on my coffee table. My dad works 10 hours a day of hard physical labor in the heat and just the fact that he is always putting others first (like myself), is so selfless, and never complains makes me feel blessed.
Jude and I are surprising him with Big Mac (his all time favorite burger) this weekend for all his hard work :)
-Four: The weather is supposed to cool down a lot starting Friday and I am feeling so excited for fall.

-Five: Finally, I have started to really eat clean and I am just feeling so energized and healthy. It's such a mood booster when you are eating healthy. I think I drank about 5 cups of green tea today, and it just made me feel happy :) Oh and I'm already down 3 pounds!

What makes you feel blessed/ puts you in a good mood?

Jude and I are currently watching our Vikings... unfortunately they're not having the best day :( oh well they have 15 more games to win! I love me some Adrian Peterson! Now it's time to be a true Vikings fan and cheer for the Packers to get their butts kicked.

Yesterday, Jude went to watch the Chokeyes...sorry the Hawkeyes. Surprisingly they actually won a game. Can you tell I like pro football better? Last weekend my whole family came over to watch the Hawkeye's opening game. Here are some pictures!
